Raw Feeding Resources
Congratulations on deciding to give your pet the best possible nutrition! While you likely want to get started immediately, it is important to make the change gradually to acclimate the digestive tract. If your pet is used to eating a kibble or canned food, they will have adjusted to digesting those types of foods.
You should start by feeding 75% of the existing food and 25% of the new food for the first week. In the second week, you can feed 50%/50%. In the third week, you can feed 75% new food and 25% existing food, and in the fourth week, you can feed 100% new food, assuming that your pet is doing well and does not have any digestive upset along the way.
Be on the lookout for vomiting, diarrhea, or nausea during this time, and if those symptoms do occur slow down on the transition. Some animals will need help learning to digest this new type of food. We recommend adding in digestive enzymes and probiotics during this transition. Please ask your veterinarian for the best recommendation for your pet.
